Group activities
There’s plenty for anyone to do at the chateau, but if you’re looking for activities that a group can enjoy together, perhaps slightly further afield, here are some suggestions. We touch on some of these on our Local Attractions page, but we’ve gathered them here because our guests often ask for ideas that are particularly suitable for a group outing.

Treasure Hunt
A fun way to entertain a large group while exploring the chateau, gardens and village. Four teams have to find and solve nine hidden clues, some of which are buried. The location of the treasure is revealed after all clues have been solved, usually after about two hours. Please book in advance. Read more…

Segway Tours
Have you ever ridden on a Segway? For newcomers or experienced users, Mobilboard offers a variety of tours in and around Saint Omer. An instructor will teach you how to ride the Segway then take you out on an urban or countryside trip. See Mobilboard Saint Omer.

Rando-Rail
Rando-Rail is based at the old railway station of Nielles-lès-Bléquin. Hire a buggy and ride along the disused track for a round trip of up to 9km through the woods and valleys. Two cyclists power each of these funny carts, so it’s a great way to get some group exercise in the open.

Cycling
Cycling enthusiasts will find this a great area to explore. There are interesting destinations, a high quality road surface and varied terrain. If you’re an adherent of the motto “When in France, do as the French do”, then cycling is pretty much mandatory!

Brasserie Goudale
Local brewery Brasserie Goudale offers guided tours of their brewing rooms. This speciality brewer originated 100 years ago but only recently moved to a brand new factory in nearby Arques. Beer-tasting included, of course!

Waterways and Marshland
Cruise the wetlands of the Audomarois Marshes in a flat-bottomed boat — a relaxing way to experience this UNESCO-designated Biosphere Reserve. Canoe and bike trips also available. A traditional cultivated wetland with floating gardens and diverse habitat. See isnor.fr.

Go-Karting and Bowling
At the Le Carré St Martin complex (five minutes from Saint Omer) there is a restaurant, bowling alley and go-kart track. The karting is provided by Planet Karting while the bowling and restaurant details are available from Le Carré St Martin.

Horse Riding
There is a big stables just outside Saint Omer and it would be possible to arrange horse riding for a group. The Centre Equestre de L’Ecusson has a website and Facebook page.

Wine Tasting
Our local wine shop is managed by Pascal, who is available to host a winetasting session at the chateau for you. Not everyone needs an excuse to drink a glass of wine, but sometimes it feels better to have one, and what better excuse than education?! Amanda can arrange this for you.

Golf
There are some great golf courses nearby. It may be advisable to pre-book tee times to ensure you get the time that suits you. We have more information about the local options on our Golf page.
