Hallines is in a fantastic location, incredibly easy to reach from the UK, as well as from Belgium, The Netherlands and Germany. Set off from Southern England after lunch and arrive at teatime. You’ll get there before anyone in the back asks if you’re nearly there yet.

The house is a mere 130 miles from central London. From the M25 (junction 5), you can be driving through the gates in about three hours. Please wait another 30 seconds or so for the feeling of well-being to emerge!

By car: Le Shuttle

Eurotunnel operates a shuttle service from Folkestone to Calais with up to four departures per hour. Drive onto the shuttle and drive off 35 minutes later in France.

By train: Eurostar

For now, Eurostar have suspended their Calais service. However, it is still very easy to take the Eurostar to Lille and change there, taking a local train to Saint Omer.

By ferry

The ferry timetables to Calais offer great choice (P&O, DFDS). Time on a ship can be an added adventure for young children.

By air

The nearest major airport is Lille Airport, one hour drive from the chateau, and Brussels (Belgium) has two international airports.

Via Paris

Driving from Paris takes less than three hours. The TGV from Paris Nord goes direct to Lille or Calais, from where you can hire a car (Avis Lille Europe, Avis Calais Frethun) or take a local train to St Omer.
